The President of Shandong Equine Industry Association, Mr Qingjie Pan, is also the Secretary of the College of Animal Science and Technology, Qingdao Agriculture University, which is also the first university that offers a major in Equine Science. Mr Pan lead the group to Darley and Godolphin’s breeding farm and training centre to view the management experience both in horse breeding and horse training with the professors from Centre of Systematic Genomics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, plus delegates from the Shandong Equine Industry Association and the horse owners.
As DITI interns, although we have already spent two weeks in the training centre Osborne Park to work with these brilliant horses and witness their triumphs on the track, this visit was quite different and we felt very proud to accompany this group as they looked around the high-level stables.
The tracks looked fantastic under Australian’s beautiful weather. Under the guidance of Operations Manager, Craig Nolan, the group was shown around the four racing barns, plus the equipment including the horse walker and swimming pool. What was interesting was that some of the delegates asked questions relating to medical issues for the horses, while others showed a great interest in how the tracks were constructed.
