Practical Farm Work
It is no doubt that it is the section that we have the most strong and mixed feeling towards among all the arrangements and activities through the whole DITI program. But the fortunate part for Team Australia is that we are also the only team which have experienced all the breeding sections in sequence, mating and breeding, foaling, weaning, yearling, pre-training, break-in, training, from the beginning to the end. Besides, Team Australia is also the only team which had chances to have a two-week placement in Osborne Park, Godolphin Racing Stable.
Activities and Events
Team Australia has attended 10 race meetings, no matter the country level racings, such as Muswellbrook Cup, Scone cup, or the metropolitan level racings, such as Melbourne Cup, Derby Day, Spring Champion Stake; four sales, the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, the Inglis Classics Yearling Sale, the Inglis Broodmare and Weaning Sale, the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale. It is worthy to mention that the Melbourne Cup is called as the 'race that stops the nation', while the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale is the best top-level yearling sale in Australia.
Moreover, Team Australia has also had the chance to visit other relevant organizations within this industry, not to mention a lot of famous stud farms or racing stables, but also a lot of companies and bodies, such as Racing NSW, Aushorse, Australia Turf Clun, Scone Equine Hospital, which made us understand the industry from different aspects and angles generally.
Lectures and Online Courses
Team Australia has been given lectures by almost all the managers of different departments of Darley Australia. Each of them has showed us the most essential and core part of what they take charge of and helped us achieve the general acknowledgement of the management method of Darley and the spirit and history of Darley, as well.
All the online modules and online tests are very valuable to help us improve the understanding of what we have learnt from the textbook, Equine Management Science. Besides, from this semester, all the DITI interns have also been involved in the courses provided by the Moller Centre of Cambridge University, which helped us learn more about business and administration knowledge.
Time flies. At the end of the DITI program, I believe every DITI intern must have a strong and mixed feelings right now. We have been through a lot, something achieved, while something lost. Let’s have the bright expectation and the best wishes to all the DITI graduates.
