Dubai International Thoroughbred Internships

The Dubai International Thoroughbred Internship programme is a ten-month, fully funded internship for Chinese university graduates. Trainees will gain extensive practical experience at one of Darley’s thoroughbred horse facilities in the UK, Ireland, Australia, America or Japan. In addition, they will travel to Dubai for three weeks to experience the horse racing industry there, and learn how, over the past half-century, HH Sheikh Mohammed has been instrumental in the development of the Emirate.

Interns will achieve learning goals through work-based experience involving the professional disciplines of equine husbandry, agriculture, veterinary medicine, marketing, stallion nomination sales, finance, human resources and business administration.

The internships start in July each year and end in April the following year, allowing for a two-week break in December. They begin with a two-week training period in Shanghai. The trainees then travel to their regional Darley location until March. In March, all the trainees head to Dubai for three weeks for further interaction and training, followed by their graduation ceremony.

When the internship is complete, the students will have a broad understanding of the global thoroughbred industry and international best practice in business management. They will also benefit from improved English language skills and an appreciation for the history, culture and future of the UAE.

Darley is responsible for all programme-related travel, tuition and accommodation expenses, and a monthly living allowance is paid to cover meals and incidental day-to-day expenses.
